Overview
Post-nasal drip is a common symptom of COVID-19. It occurs when excess mucus from the nasal passages accumulates and drips down the back of the throat, causing irritation.
Symptoms
A constant feeling of mucus in the throat, frequent throat clearing, a sore or tickly throat, a cough that is worse at night, and a feeling of a lump in the throat.
Causes
The virus causes inflammation and increased mucus production in the nasal passages and sinuses, leading to the excess drainage.
Treatment
Saline nasal sprays, antihistamines, and decongestants can help reduce mucus. Sleeping with your head elevated can help minimize drainage.
When to See a Doctor
If post-nasal drip is accompanied by severe pain, fever, or lasts for more than two weeks, consult a doctor.
