Overview
Lambda was a variant of COVID-19 initially identified in Peru. It was designated as a 'variant of interest' by the WHO. While it had mutations that might have made it more transmissible, it did not become a dominant global strain.
Symptoms
Symptoms were typical of COVID-19 and included fever, cough, shortness of breath, fatigue, muscle aches, headache, and sore throat. Loss of taste and smell was also reported.
Causes
Lambda is a variant of the SARS-CoV-2 virus that accumulated mutations in its spike protein, allowing it to spread and potentially evade immunity.
Treatment
Treatment was supportive care for mild to moderate cases. Severe cases required hospitalization and oxygen therapy. Antivirals were used for high-risk individuals.
When to See a Doctor
As with any COVID-19 infection, seek medical care if you develop severe symptoms like shortness of breath or chest pain.
