Overview
COVID-19 has a wide range of symptoms that can vary significantly from person to person. Some people may be asymptomatic, while others may experience severe illness. Symptoms can appear 2-14 days after exposure to the virus.
Common Symptoms
The most common symptoms include fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, and diarrhea.
Less Common Symptoms
Less common symptoms include rash, pink eye, dizziness, kidney pain, tinnitus, and skin changes like COVID toes. Symptoms can also involve the gastrointestinal system and the neurological system.
Symptoms by Variant
Different variants, like Omicron, are associated with different symptoms. Omicron is more likely to cause a sore throat, runny nose, and headache, while loss of smell is less common.
When to See a Doctor
Seek emergency medical care if you have trouble breathing, persistent pain or pressure in the chest, confusion, inability to wake or stay awake, or bluish lips or face.
