Overview
Nasal symptoms are common in COVID-19, particularly with newer variants. They can include a runny nose, nasal congestion, and changes in smell. These symptoms are similar to those of a common cold.
Symptoms
Congestion, a runny nose, sneezing, and a burning sensation. Loss of smell and taste is also a prominent symptom.
Causes
The virus infects the cells in the nasal passage, causing inflammation, swelling, and increased mucus production.
Treatment
Nasal decongestants, antihistamines, and saline sprays can help manage symptoms. Rest and hydration are also important.
When to See a Doctor
See a doctor if nasal symptoms are accompanied by fever, severe pain, or if they persist for more than two weeks.
