COVID-19 Symptom: Dry Nose

A dry nose can be a symptom of COVID-19, often related to inflammation or a side effect of medications.

Overview

Some people with COVID-19 experience nasal dryness. This may be due to the virus causing inflammation in the nasal passages, or as a result of using nasal decongestants.

Symptoms

A feeling of dryness, irritation, or crusting inside the nose. It may also cause mild nosebleeds.

Causes

The virus can affect the nasal mucosa, causing inflammation and dryness. Additionally, some people may use over-the-counter nasal sprays to manage congestion, which can dry out the nasal passages.

Treatment

Saline nasal sprays or a humidifier can help moisturize the nasal passages. Staying hydrated is also important.

When to See a Doctor

If the dryness is accompanied by severe nosebleeds, pain, or other concerning symptoms, see a doctor.
