COVID-19 Symptom: Blurry Vision

Blurry vision can be a symptom of COVID-19, though it's less common and can be related to inflammation or other eye issues.

Overview

Some people with COVID-19 report blurry or decreased vision. This is a less common symptom but can occur as part of the systemic inflammation caused by the virus. It can also be a consequence of conjunctivitis (pink eye) which can be associated with COVID-19.

Symptoms

Blurry vision, redness, or eye irritation may be reported. Some patients may also have sensitivity to light. It may be unilateral or bilateral.

Causes

The exact mechanism is not fully understood, but it may be due to the virus affecting the eyes directly or the body's immune response causing inflammation of the conjunctiva or other eye structures.

Treatment

Treatment is supportive. Staying hydrated and resting your eyes can help. If eye drops are needed, artificial tears can soothe irritation. Do not use eye drops that treat infections without a doctor's advice.

When to See a Doctor

If you experience sudden or severe vision changes, or if you have significant eye pain, you should see a doctor immediately. This is important to rule out other more serious eye conditions.
